This course is organized around five Big Ideas, or recurrent historical themes: American Identities, Labor and Technology, America and the World, Reforms and Renewal, and Self and Society. As you study American history with us, you will see them in different forms again and again throughout the year, from the earliest days of colonial America to the Civil War. This class emphasizes close work with primary and secondary sources. It blends independent work with meaningful collaboration.
